- It began to have a big impact on my life and that of my friends. I soon realised the huge influence it had on younger children and decided to do something about it. I first designed T-shirts to raise awareness and organised an event to show that teenagers could have fun and to create some positive press. I started to talk at conferences and attended lots of meetings to network.
I collected hundreds of signatures on a petition to show that it was not just me that felt this and that the youth want to make changes.- I have funded all this through selling my merchandise. The awareness has grown and more importantly parents are aware that their children can be carrying knives.
- I am now wanting to take an awareness roadshow to schools and create awareness student councils in each school.
- To encourage youth participation.
- I got into my position after being excluded from mainstream school and meeting lots of youth from varied backgrounds.
- Tip For success:
- Take a chance, don't be afraid to have your say and be a good listener.
